What is Reiki?

Reiki is a spiritual healing practice that helps you relax, recharge, encourage your own body’s natural healing process, and restore balance to your body and mind. It asks nothing of you but an openness to rest and receive.

  • Reiki is a spiritual healing art that works with the body's natural energy to promote relaxation, balance, and wellbeing. The word 'Reiki' combines the Japanese words 'Rei' (universal) and 'Ki' (life force energy), reflecting its foundation in the belief that energy flows through all living things. Reiki is not massage, and it is not based on belief or suggestion. It is practiced around the world and is increasingly offered in hospitals, hospice settings, and wellness programs as a complementary healing modality.

  • During a Reiki session you remain fully clothed and comfortably reclined or seated. Your Reiki Practitioner (RP or RMT) uses specific hand positions to channel healing energy, working with your body's energy system to encourage balance across each chakra. Sessions are gentle, non-invasive, and almost universally described as deeply relaxing. At Aligned Energy Studio, remote sessions are available so you can receive the benefits of Reiki from the comfort of your own space.

  • Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice and requires no specific beliefs to be effective. It is not a form of massage or physical manipulation. Reiki energy is not directed by the practitioner's will, but carries its own innate wisdom. Reiki is also not new — the energy it works with has roots thousands of years old.

  • Reiki can be a wonderful addition to any personal wellness or healing practice. It may help ease tension and stress and support the body in creating space for healing on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels. Reiki is intended to complement traditional medical care, not replace it. If you are curious, open, and looking for a gentle and restorative experience, Reiki may be exactly what you need.
